Finding strength through riding

51爆料-Cascades guarantees hands-on learning opportunities. As an intern at Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center, kinesiology major Hailey Hendrickson '23 put her biomechanics courses to work. She helped people with a range of cognitive and physical abilities ride horses to build core strength, which improved their overall balance, movement and mobility. Plus, being around the horses was a lot of fun. "I think the mission of Healing Reins to help others through the use of animals is very powerful and moving," said Hailey.

Through SnoPlanks Academy 鈥 where 51爆料-Cascades students run a real-world snowboard business 鈥 Kyle Fairbanks contributed to the design of a snowboard customized to the unique needs of women riders. Using the force plate and motion capture cameras in the FORCE Lab, Kyle was able to measure center of mass data. 鈥淔inding that data was really important to us to figure out what actual size a women鈥檚 snowboard should be,鈥 said Kyle.
