Housing-Provided Lofts and Bunk Beds

Many students like to maximize their usable space in student rooms by incorporating lofts or bunks for their beds.

A loft is a bed that is raised so that a student may place their desk or other furniture underneath to maximize space.

A bunk is when two beds are stacked on top of each other. Please review below to learn what options we provide for your room assignment.

Students are not permitted to build their own lofts.

Complimentary Lofts and Bunk Beds

Some rooms require lofted and bunked beds as part of the room configuration and do not incur a loft charge. All triple rooms come with one lofted bed, and two beds bunked.

Requesting a Loft or Bunk Bed

Prospective residents will have an opportunity to enter the lottery on the housing application. All students who express interest in a loft prior to June 30 will be entered into a random lottery. They will receive word of a loft assignment by early September. Students will have 7 days to decline a loft offer.

Based upon availability loft and bunk kits will be installed in the resident's room before Fall term begins. If there are no available loft or bunk kits, the student will be placed on the waitlist which continues into the school year. If a loft or bunk kit becomes available, the first student on the list will be notified via  email and will have 48 hours to accept.

For bunk beds, both residents must email housing@osucascades.edu from their ONID address to request one.

Price

$300/year, $150/term

Bunk beds: Rental fee will be split by two residents.

Additional Loft & Bunk Information

  • A loft is a bed that is raised so that a student may place their desk or other furniture underneath to maximize space.  A bunk is when two beds are stacked on top of each other.
  • Unlofted beds can be raised up to 42" high. Beds may be raised with retail-purchased bed risers.
  • During the academic year, if a student with a loft or bunk changes rooms to a room that can accommodate lofts or bunks, the loft can be moved with the student to their new room at no additional charge. The student must inform housing staff that they would like to take their loft with them.
  • If a student cancels their contract or moves to an ineligible room, they can transfer a loft or bunk to the roommate remaining in the room at no cost as long as there is no waitlist for lofts or bunks.
  • Students may request to remove a rented loft or bunk kit throughout the academic year by submitting a maintenance request. The rental fee will not be refunded or reduced.
  • Loft and ceiling heights may vary slightly.  Please submit a maintenance request to have your loft height adjusted.
  • There is no limit on the amount of students that can order loft kits in a single room, unless doing this would block a window, due to the shape of the room.
